Frequently Asked Questions
What is a DNS firewall?
A DNS resolver that refuses to answer for malicious or unwanted domains, so devices never connect to them.
Do I need to install software?
No. Change the DNS server on your router or device and every app on it is protected.
Will it slow down my internet?
No. DNS answers are cached and blocked lookups return instantly, which often makes pages load faster because ads and trackers are skipped.
Why do I have to register my IP address?
The resolver only answers registered addresses. This keeps it closed to abuse and links lookups to your own settings and logs.
What happens if my IP address changes?
Update the address in your dashboard. Filtering resumes as soon as the server receives the new address.
Can I unblock a site?
Yes. Add any domain to your allowlist and it overrides every block rule.
What does blocking new domains mean?
Domains registered recently are blocked because most phishing and malware sites are only days old.
Does FirewallDNS log my lookups?
Logs are only used for your own dashboard and are deleted automatically after 30 days.
Does it work on phones?
Yes, on Wi-Fi through your router. Mobile data protection uses encrypted DNS settings on the device.
How much does it cost?
FirewallDNS costs $2.90 per device per month. Choose Starter (5 devices), Business (25 devices) or MSP with unlimited devices.
